DAILY NOTIONS-FRIDAY

  • I just realized that I skipped Thursdays posting. My bad.
  • I was watching the FOX News Channel this morning when I watched a report on the prisons in California. Dear Lord, If I ever have to go to prison, please guide me to the California State Prison system. They get three hots and a cot, some aroma therapy, spa sessions, and yoga, Amen. Geesh, what a waste.
  • They also had a story about life-size "real dolls." They are anatomically correct female dolls/companions. WTF???? The dolls are involved in a legal battle.
  • I'm becoming more and more worried about the mind state of some people.
  • I find myself getting sucked into the news lately. As a point, I try not to watch some news shows simply because they are more entertainment than informational, but I can't seem to help myself.
  • Moving to Leonard, Tx soon...Again...it's a quiet, sleepy little town with little or no crime. It doesn't even have a stoplight. I'm gonna miss Wal-Mart the most...
  • Plus I don't look forward to moving AGAIN.
  • Facebook farmtown is addicting.
  • I've been neglecting twitter lately. I should post something there today.
  • That's it for now. Maybe I'll think of something later and add it.

FOUND IT...TXT MSG GLSRY

Oh, my. Now, what I want to know is, how do you know when someone is trying to say "bye bye babe" or "boring beyond belief" when they txt BBB?

THE BLOGOSSARY

So, I was reading a fellow bloggers post today, and I wondered what something meant. I like to look it up when I come across something that stumps me. I came across this when I googled h/t. It's a glossary for blog speak. Do they have one of these for texting? I sure do get some strange text messages sometimes.

CRESCENT HOTEL-EUREKA SPRINGS, ARKANSAS

Now this is what I wanted to see when I took the tour of the hotel. This is an investigation by TAPS. You know them from the sci-fi show "Ghost Hunters." This is just a small clip of some of the things they found when they investigated.

Check out the Crescent Hotel's website for some cool pictures taken by people on the tours. See them here.

ART CAR FESTIVAL

Here are a few pics of the art cars we saw while in Eureka Springs. Be sure to check out the video at the end of my favorite art car.

The Guitar Car

The Camera Van (it has it's own website here).

The Space Shuttle Van

And last but not least, my favorite art car had moving parts and music. It's called "The Sashimi Tabernacle Choir" art car. Here's a video of it from an Art Car Festival in Austin...couldn't find one from Eureka Springs.

DAILY NOTIONS-WEDNESDAY

  • Whew...Finally home for a while. I like to travel, but I'm not so sure that my tiny little truck is my preferred means. And no vehicle is really ideal if you're going to be driving for more than a few hours. I wouldn't mind not getting into a car for a few days.
  • We arrived in Arkansas on friday afternoon and I decided to hang out with my brother, his fiance and her friends. After driving for 7 hours, I went with them to the Crescent Hotel there in Eureka Springs. It's said to be haunted. You can stay there, or like us, you can stay somewhere much cheaper and then pay $18 to take a tour of the place. It's five stories (including the basement) and the sign for the tour says two hours of extensive walking. It was more like two hours of extensive lectures. It was kind of boring and slightly awkward. I know it would have been cheezy, but common, rattle some chains or something.
  • Before the tour we ate at a place called the Rowdy Beaver. My chicken alfredo was delicious, but my mom and stepdad thought it wasn't so good.
  • My mother has a GPS that she paid an arm and a leg for a year or so ago. I still insist on printing out directions on mapquest. I don't really trust the GPS since the last time we used it the darn thing sent us all over the place and we ended up in the wrong spot. It was right on this time, but the mountains were not a place I planned on getting stranded.
  • Some people call them mountains, some call them big hills. I'm not sure, but they were extremely pretty.
  • I wanted to write about the Art Cars they had there for the weekend, but I think it deserves it's own post. I also found a video for one that I want to post, so look for that soon.
  • I had the pull out couch at the cottage we rented. It's been a long time since I slept on one, and I hope it's a long time before I have to again.
  • We saw a lot of motorcycles there. They had some kind of Harley Davidson thing going on somewhere on the other side of town. Call me crazy, but I was a little shaky driving a car up the curvy side of that mountain. No way you'd get me on a motorcycle up there.
  • My brother's wedding was so pretty. They just had a small ceremony with just their family and the wedding party (maid of honor and best man). It was held at Angel at Rose Hall. It rained that morning, but cleared up just in time for the wedding.
  • Congrats to Chris and Erica. The only advice I can give (since I'm not married) is don't listen to other people's advice. They never know the whole story.
  • I can see why they chose Eureka Springs, but I don't think I'd ever come back on a Memorial Day weekend. There were waaaay too many people running up and down this tiny little strip of stores. Most of them were drunk or high....I must say, just from the three days I was there, I think their drug problem could give Wise County a run for it's money.
  • Anyone that knows me will tell you I am not opposed to a good margarita. I am not even opposed to a couple good margaritas. But there is nothing I hate more than to be surrounded by a bunch of slobbering, stumbling, drunk crazies. I found myself in that situation a couple of times this weekend. That was a great margarita, though.
  • I usually try to be on my best behavior in the presence of my parents. And I generally don't go looking for a fight. But to that toothless, crackhead hillbilly in Eureka Springs that called me a fat-a$$ (you know who you are), you better get down on your knees and thank your lucky stars my momma was there, or you might have lost that last tooth. I actually turned around to confront the woman, but my mother must have heard what she said because the next thing I knew, I was being pulled into the closest store front and being told not to act on what she said. Lucky, Lucky woman.
  • I really wanted to say something to that woman....guess it's better that I didn't.
  • I guess that's it for tonight. I know it's not as exciting as I'd hoped, but I am still working on a couple of things that I experience on the trip that I want to share with everyone. And now maybe I can make these daily notions a little more....well...daily.
  • Good Night

HOME AGAIN

I am officially back from the weekend wedding and I am exhausted. That drive is a beat down. It's a beautiful place, but the drive is awful. I was going to try and post some stuff tonight before I leave in the morning to go back to Bridgeport, but I am just too tired. I will try to post while I am there, but otherwise, I will be back home on Wednesday and will do it then. Hopefully, then, I will be able to start posting my daily notions, again, and maybe some other intersting stuff I discovered on my trip. Check back soon. I promise to make it good.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congrats to my brother Chris and his new wife Erica. They were married Saturday at 6pm in Eureka Springs, AR. Best Wishes.....and GOOD LUCK!!! Love you guys.

DAILY NOTIONS-THURSDAY

  • I watched Meghan McCain on the Tyra Banks show today, and I am impressed with her. I'm not really impressed with too many people, so that says something. She's very intelligent and well spoken. Maybe she should have been the one running for prez.
  • I drove my father's little red convertible last weekend from hillsboro back to his house and I can't decide whether I loved it or hated it. It's exciting and thrilling, but at the same time, being in that TINY car in the lane right next to the GINORMOUS 18 wheeler was a little scary.
  • Not to mention the horrible sunburn I got. Now I'm peeling...maybe that was TMI (too much info).
  • I left my dog in Bridgeport with my BF for the weekend because of the trip. I am more than a little apprehensive about leaving my dog with him. Not to mention, I don't know what to do with myself without a tiny little yapper following me around all day.
  • Have you ever noticed that the stuff you buy to get ready for a trip cost almost as much, if not more than the trip itself.
  • I just looked up the place we'll be staying and there is no internet access there (are they stuck in the stoneage?) so there will be no blogging or tweeting for an entire weekend.
  • I had so many things I wanted to write for tonight...but as always, I can't remember most of them...I should make a note or something.
  • I'll end on a good note....Today I received a letter in the mail from the college I'm attending. Not only did I get good grades, but I am on the Dean's Honor List this semester, as well. Yeah me!! My grades have never been quite high enough before, so I'm a little proud. Mom had to stop me before I framed it:)
  • Won't be back until Monday at least...Have a great weekend!!! Happy Memorial Day.

IT COST MORE TO BE POOR

I found this story today about the true cost of poverty. I never really thought of it this way before. Maybe it's because I've never really considered myself as being poor, but I think this story sheds a different light on the subject.

It's quite lengthy, but you can read the story here.

DAILY NOTIONS - WEDNESDAY

  • I can never think of clever or witty names...screen names, post titles, etc....If you have a better idea about what to call my new daily posting, please let me know.
  • I am completely excited about this weekend's trip. We are going to Arkansas for my brother's wedding. Don't know why they picked Arkansas, but Eureka Springs is beautiful, so I can't complain.
  • Seems like I get my travel anxiety from my mother. On a daily basis, I find myself doing things I used to make fun of my mother for doing.
  • My darling brother calls me the trip nazi. I get a little irritated when people have to stop every thirty minutes to pee somewhere.
  • The lady that cleans my moms house is coming tomorrow. Her name is Teresa, but everyone just calls her the cleaning lady. To say that this irritates me is quite an understatement. People have names for a reason. Use them.
  • Also, I will never get over the fact that we have to clean the house before she comes. Does this happen with anyone else who has their house cleaned?
  • I got a pedicure for the first time today. I'm a little weirded out by people touching my feet, so I normally just get a manicure. I have to say, once I got over the weird factor, it wasn't bad. I've been missing out.
  • I haven't been to a bar or club in years. What does one wear out to a bar or club these days?
  • I know I am 27, but my mother still makes me dress to her taste when I'm seen with her. She has a problem with my jeans and tshirts fashion sense. She says I am a reflection of her when we're together. I say I am a reflection only of myself and if you don't like my jeans and tshirts, then don't look. I always give in.
  • I signed up for a book club earlier this year, and I just received a book entitled English as a Second F*cking Language: How to Swear Effectively, Explained in Detail with Numerous Examples Taken From Everyday Life by an author named Sterling Johnson. I feel that people sound much more intelligent when they speak without swearing. I'm not saying I don't swear. I'm saying when it counts, maybe we could do with a little less "effective" swearing.
  • I know people that swear and they don't even realize they said it. It's just a natural part of their vocabulary.
  • I have quite a bit more I could talk about, but it's late so I think I'll save them for tomorrow.

SOMETHING NEW

I really have been thinking about what I could write about that would be interesting enough for..well, anyone...I am not necessarily looking for millions of readers, but I would have to admit that it is nice to have my little corner of the world in which I can voice my thoughts. A fellow blogger (you know who you are) offered me some inspiration this week and I am going to try some of the ideas he provided. The first thing I am going to try is a daily thoughts posting...although, I don't think I'm going to call it that. Now, since my brother is getting married this weekend, in Arkansas, I'm not sure how "daily" it will be at first, but I am going to make a good effort at it, anyway. So, here goes nothing.

UPDATE ON COLLEGE

I am now aware of the fact that when I try to go to school while living at home in Bridgeport, I don't do well. I finally moved back in with my mother to try and attend school in east Texas. I'm doing leaps and bounds better. It started when I decided I wanted to go back to school. I have a hard time with it even being single with no children, so I cannot imagine what it must be like for those who have children that try to go back to school. And I even have the advantage being able to not work while I attend school. So when I went back this last semester to try and recover my GPA from a very bad time at UNT, I was so afraid that I wouldn't do well. It was really a make or break semester for me. I took four online classes. I do not recommend this for ANYONE. It is just soooo much work. The work is not any harder than classroom assignments...it's just twice as much, if not more. I let my grades fall at UNT because of some things I was dealing with personally. I was so embarrassed when I got my transcripts from them saying that my GPA was..well let's just say under a 1.0. I am not a dumb person. I've just made some dumb decisions in my life, and I think I finally realized what I might be throwing away when I opened that transcript. So I worked extremely hard on my grades this time around. No one really knows what it meant for me to prove that I could do it. I graduated high school with honors, I was given all kinds of scholarships, and I am not going to let that all go to waste. I want to succeed. I want to be able to support myself and not have to lean on others. I got my grades in this last week, and I have to say that I'm proud of what I can do when I actually try. That was the problem, really. I lacked the ambition to try. School is not hard for me...in most cases, I don't even have to study. The hardest part for me is making myself do the work. So seeing as how I signed up for online classes, I knew that my biggest obstacle would be to make myself do the work. And I did it. I was aiming for four solid A's. But I will take two A's and two B's. My semester GPA was a 3.54. I just have one more class to retake...and that's astronomy...a class that I wouldn't have taken in the first place had UNT not required more science that other university cores. I'm hoping to get back to A&M-Commerce...the only school I've ever loved...with at least a 2.5 GPA. Wish me luck for this coming summer session, because I have enrolled in Astronomy to right a wrong...and Marketing. We'll see how this goes.

JUST FYI.....

I am back in my hometown for a week and won't always have access to a computer that I can post from. I will post as I can, but don't give up...I will be back. Also sometimes I get writer's block, but i have an opinion on everything so if you wanna hear it, ask me about something. I love a good debate. Let's go.

Edit: I was thinking about posting a couple of responses to the whole "waterboarding" controversy and also the new universal health care reform...I would like to know your opinions.

ARE YOU OFFENDED?....WANDA SYKES SPEAKS AT WHITE HOUSE DINNER

Get over it. She's a comedian. And while, yes, maybe she pushed the limits of what might be considered funny, she was just telling jokes. We all have our own opinion of what we consider to be a good/bad joke. I will admit, I laughed. I didn't get offended. I have been a long time fan of Wanda Sykes. I can say that even after that bit, I am still a fan. She has said no worse than many other "shock" comics around the globe. We laugh at those. Their only difference is that they are not speaking at the White House. Do I think that they should have apologized for her jokes? NO. Do I understand why they did? Yes. Most of you would have or did laugh at it when you heard it, so why act so offended? In case you missed it, here it is in it's entirety.

YOU TUBE'S HOW TO SECTION....THIS IS CRAZY

Picture this. You're in a room with a woman when she goes into labor. You call the hospital or the midwife and they tell you they're busy. What do you do? Panic? Why not turn on your PC and google "how to deliver a baby." This guy did, and he found exactly what he needed.....on YOUTUBE!!! Now that's what I call thinking outside the box.
